We are seeking multiple postdoctoral fellows for research into neuroimmune mechanisms after brain injuries. The positions are at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

The Neuroimmunology Lab aims to understand how CNS and peripheral immune cells are involved in the injury and recovery processes after stroke, traumatic brain injury and vascular dementia, using cutting-edge techniques such as genetically modified mice, computational flow cytometry, single-cell multi-omics and
in vivo animal imaging system. Moreover, we aim to develop pharmacological interventions that modulate immune function to improve functional recovery. The candidate will work with rodent models of stroke, traumatic brain injury and vascular dementia and in vitro cell cultures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Independently work in a laboratory research setting related to stroke and brain injury research, design and perform experiments.
  • Perform various tasks related to several research projects, including development and implementation of detailed neurobehavioral testing, immunohistochemistry and histology, maintain the breeding and care of several genetically modified and aged rodent colonies, and primary cell cultures.
  • Maintenance of experimental record, data analysis and presentation, manuscript and grant preparation.
Successful candidates are expected to have:

  • A PhD and experience in relevant disciplines of neuroscience, immunology, or biomedical science.
  • A demonstrated commitment to excellent research. The incumbent will be expected to perform complex experimental studies and analyze data independently. He/she will be supervised by the Principal Investigator and junior faculty members, with work and progress reviewed periodically in individual and group meetings.
  • An understanding of the operational requirements for a successful research project.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of experimental research methods. Experience concerning neurofunctional assays, confocal and two photon imaging, electrophysiology, primary cell culture or small animal surgery is a plus.
  • The incumbent is expected to maintain accurate documentation of all work performed per University guidelines.
  • Commitment to promote teamwork, supervise junior lab personnel and sharing of information among projects in domain of expertise.
  • Good communication skills (oral, written, presentations, etc.). The incumbent will be expected to interact with members of the research community outside of the immediate work area. The purpose of these contacts will include, but not be limited to, the acquisition of techniques and procedures new to the laboratory, the dissemination of expertise on protocols currently used in the laboratory, and presentation of project results at conferences or meetings.
